Punakha Tshechu

Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be welcomed by your guide and transferred to Thimphu. Enjoy the serene drive through river valleys and pine forests. After checking into your hotel, explore the capital with a short walk and local market visit.

Start your cultural journey by visiting Buddha Dordenma, Memorial Chorten, and the Folk Heritage Museum. Stop by the National Institute for Zorig Chusum to witness traditional arts and crafts. End the day at Tashichho Dzong, Bhutan’s administrative and spiritual center.

Depart for Punakha, stopping at Dochula Pass (3,100m) to admire panoramic Himalayan views and 108 chortens. En route, visit the fertility temple Chimi Lhakhang before reaching Punakha. Enjoy an evening walk near the river or rest at your hotel.

Spend the day at Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most beautiful fortresses. Witness vibrant masked dances and traditional music performed by monks and locals. The Tshechu commemorates a significant military victory and attracts people from across the region dressed in traditional attire.

Visit Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a beautiful hilltop structure offering panoramic views of the valley. Return to the Dzong for continued Tshechu celebrations or enjoy a leisurely afternoon exploring nearby villages and farms.

Drive back to Paro, stopping at Tachogang Lhakhang and its iron chain bridge. In Paro, visit Rinpung Dzong and the National Museum. Spend the evening exploring Paro town or relaxing at your hotel in preparation for your hike the next day.

Hike to the sacred Taktsang Monastery, perched dramatically on a cliff. The 4–5 hour roundtrip hike offers a profound sense of accomplishment and unmatched views. After descending, enjoy a traditional hot stone bath or stroll through Paro town for souvenirs.

After breakfast, transfer to Paro International Airport for your departure, carrying memories of Bhutan’s spiritual depth and cultural richness.
