Snowman Trek

Arrive at Paro International Airport. After a warm welcome, transfer to your hotel. If time permits, visit Paro Dzong and the National Museum. Rest and prepare for the upcoming high-altitude adventure.

Today includes a steep but rewarding hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, perched on a cliff face. This helps with acclimatization and offers a profound introduction to Bhutanese spirituality.

Drive to Drukgyel Dzong ruins and begin trekking along the Paro Chhu river through lush pine and oak forests. Camp overnight at Shana.

Continue upstream through rhododendron forests and small settlements. The trail gradually ascends. If the weather is clear, distant views of Mt. Jomolhari appear.

Trek above the tree line with expansive views. Pass yak herder camps before reaching Jangothang, the base camp of Mt. Jomolhari. The landscape opens dramatically.

Use the day for acclimatization. Optional hikes to nearby ridges offer excellent views of Jomolhari, Jichu Drake, and Tshering Gang. Explore the area or rest.

Cross the Nyile La Pass (4,870m) before descending into a broad valley leading to Lingshi. Views of the Lingshi Dzong and surrounding peaks are captivating.

A short and easy day. Visit Lingshi Dzong and head to the quaint village of Chebisa with beautiful waterfalls nearby. Great chance to observe rural Bhutanese life.

Climb over Gogu La Pass (4,450m), descending through wild meadows and forests. Cross yak pastures before camping at Shomuthang.

Ascend Jhari La Pass (4,780m) with panoramic views of Gangchhenta. Descend through rhododendron forests and past alpine lakes to Robluthang.

Climb the highest pass so far, Sinche La (5,005m). Enjoy dramatic views before descending to a lovely meadow at Limithang. Gangchhenta towers above the camp.

Trek through forests and riverside trails to Laya, Bhutan’s highest settlement. Meet the Layap people and experience their unique culture.

Spend the day relaxing, exploring the village, and learning about the local customs of the Layap community. Optional hot stone bath and cultural interaction.

Leave Laya behind and enter remote wilderness. Gentle ascents through forested paths lead to Rodophu, a high-altitude yak pasture.

Gradual climb through rugged alpine landscape. Camp below the Karakachu La Pass, surrounded by peaks and barren beauty.

Cross Karakachu La (5,150m), one of the trek’s highest passes. Steep descent to lush Tarina valley, following glacial streams.

Pass through pine forests and rolling terrain to reach the remote village of Woche, marking the entry into Lunana.

A longer day walking along the Pho Chhu river, passing through Chozo village. Reach Thanza, one of the largest settlements in Lunana.

Relax and explore the surroundings. Optional hikes to nearby glacial lakes or ridges. Meet locals and rest for the demanding days ahead.

Begin climbing again through high valleys and yak herder camps. Camp at Danji beneath towering ridges.

Ascend to the high Tshorim Lake area, surrounded by dramatic alpine scenery. Glaciers and icefields dominate the landscape.

Climb Gophu La (5,460m), the highest point of the trek. Enjoy rare views of Gangkar Puensum, Bhutan’s highest unclimbed mountain. Camp nearby.

Descend steeply through a glacier valley to reach the yak pasture of Geshe Woma. The terrain shifts back to grassland.

Cross the challenging Saga La (4,970m), then descend into forested trails. Camp at Warathang surrounded by firs and alpine flowers.

A short hike over a low pass leads to Dur Tsachu, where you can bathe in natural hot springs—one of the few along the trail.

A steep climb and long traverse leads to a beautiful campsite at Tshochenchen. Enjoy views of surrounding ridgelines and isolated valleys.

Descend through dense forests and gradually reach the road head at Dur village in Bumthang. Your epic trek concludes here.

Drive to Jakar in Bumthang and take a domestic flight back to Paro. Rest and enjoy a final evening in Bhutan.
